25 YEARS BUCHHEIM MUSEUM

Retrospective and outlook for the anniversary
23 May – 30 September 2026

The Buchheim Museum der Phantasie will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026. It was officially inaugurated on 23 May 2001 in the presence of the founding couple Lothar-Günther and Diethild Buchheim, the Bavarian Minister-President Edmund Stoiber, and numerous  distinguished figures from the world of politics and culture. Conceived as a Gesamtkunstwerk uniting architecture, visual art and landscape, the museum swiftly established itself as an integral part of the cultural fabric of the Fünfseenland. With well over one hundred exhibitions to date, it has made significant contributions to the scholarly study of Expressionism.

In light of the forthcoming anniversary and the planned opening of the new extension building in autumn 2026, the exhibition offers an opportunity not only for reflection and pause, but also for looking ahead to the museum’s future trajectory.
