Resonant Silence
Stone Sculptures by Kubach & Kropp, 05.08.2025 – 15.03.2026
The artist duo Livia Kubach and Michael Kropp primarily work with black granite sourced from various regions around the world. The texture of the stone, once worked, can appear either crystalline or amorphous—polished and smooth, or rough with fractured edges.
At first glance, their sculptures captivate with a distinct and powerful aesthetic. They convey a sense of stillness and concentration, exerting a strong, almost mystical pull on the viewer.
Beyond their surface appeal, Kubach & Kropp’s works possess both visual and acoustic dimensions. They invite viewers to explore the shifting optical qualities of the stone and the subtle play of light by changing their viewing angle. Many pieces are also designed to produce sound, which can be experienced during guided tours.
Livia Kubach, a graduate of the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts and former master student of Günther Uecker, and Michael Kropp, a self-taught sculptor and musician, have developed a distinctive artistic language over the years—one that resists trends and defies categorization.
Their stone sculptures have gained international recognition and have been featured in numerous exhibitions. Their work is also held in many prestigious public and private collections.
The artist couple lives and works inBad Kreuznach, Germany.
