Ruprecht von Kaufmann: Life Between the Chairs

29.11.2025 – 15.03.2026

The work of painter Ruprecht von Kaufmann (born 1974) is among the important positions in contemporary figurative art. In his paintings, he stages a Theatrum Mundi of interior and exterior spaces with humans, animals, and chimeras as autonomous beings, even to the point of parody. They seem to act on the canvas as if in a dream, without taking action. The distinctions between top and bottom, front and back are often dissolved. The supposed voids in his images have a similar significance for our perception as pauses do in music, simultaneously forming metaphors for a »life between the chairs«.
