MUSICAL SWINGS

Swing · Have fun · Dream · Enjoy

Now, finally, the MUSICAL SWINGS are inaugurated! In the first week of September, curious museum visitors were already looking at what was being installed on the lake and making such beautiful sounds. Even swimmers in and paddlers on the lake felt magically attracted. After years of preparation, the first station of the WUNDERWELT BERNRIED is now open, a cooperation project of the Buchheim Museum and the municipality of Bernried.

Three swings, each of which can be used by up to four people, have been suspended by the Montreal art and design studio Daily tous les jours under the 12-metre-high footbridge that juts into the lake at the Buchheim Museum. If you set them swinging, they produce different tones or chords depending on the height of the swing, played by a piano, a harp and a vibraphone. A sense of community is required, then you can create whole melodies. But even on your own it is an indescribable experience to swing on the big comfortable seat, look at the lake, the park or the sky and indulge your thoughts – until the next crowd of children comes and brings life under the bridge again.

The MUSICAL SWINGS project has been sponsored by the Bavarian State Chancellery, the Québec Ministry of International Relations and Francophonie, the Québec Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Québec Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), the Marina Hotel in Bernried, the Moll Group in Munich, the Dornier Family Office in Starnberg, Michael Langen in Tutzing, the Friends of the Buchheim Museum in Bernried and the Sparkasse Oberland.

Wonderland Bernried

Funding from the EU and the Free State of Bavaria

The joint project "Wunderwelt Bernried" of the municipality of Bernried and the Buchheim Museum is an innovative pilot project in Bavaria. It aims to promote village development through international urban art. Between the village centre and the museum, a landscape worth discovering is to be created that is full of surprises and attractions. Places with interactive artworks will be created where people of all ages can come together, marvel and play.

The project was awarded LEADER funding from the European Union and the Free State of Bavaria in 2021. An international competition was held, which was won by the art and design studio "Daily tous les jours" from Montréal (Québec, Canada) with the interactive art project "Musical Swings".

As the venue for "Wunderwelt Bernried", it has been opened to the public on 10 September 2023: On the jetty of the Buchheim Museum, which juts strikingly into the lake, three "Musical Swings" will invite all passers-by to swing together and create sounds with their swings. The swingers will experience an immediate physical aesthetic experience of art, nature and human community.
